Just me, myself and I

myself

I was born in 1978 in Chorley Lancashire and grew up in Leyland. I attended Farrington primary school and then Wellfield Secondary Modern School, then Runshaw College. My parents Anne and Dave worked as a social worker and a farmer.

After attending Runshaw college I looked around at Universities and decided on the University of Sheffield. The decision was largly based on the fact that I wanted to study materials science, they have a good Department of Engineering Materials at Sheffield, and Sheffield seemed better than Manchester or Birmingham as a place to live.

Investigating options after finishing at Sheffield I stumbled on a new MPhil modelling of materials course at the University of Cambridge. After completing the one year course I started my current studies, investigating a novel bainitic steel.

My research group is mostly Japanese at the moment, this is my name translated into japanese (chinese characters).
